ENHANCING TRANSPARENCY AND CREDIBILITY OF CSR PRACTICES THROUGH ESTABLISHMENT OF CSR PERFOMANCE ASSESSMENT AND MONITORING SYSTEM IN NEW EU MEMBER STATES
Project description:
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is a concept whereby companies integrate social and environmental concerns in their business operations and in their interactions with stakeholders on a voluntary basis. CSR is an important tool for private sector to actively contribute to the sustainable development, which is a long-term goal of EU. The Project aims to enhance the transparency and credibility of CSR practices and lay a basis for country level CSR measurement and monitoring systems in selected EU member states: Bulgaria, Hungary, Lithuania, Poland and Slovak Republic.
Objectives:
The main objective of the Project is to enable measuring and monitoring CSR perfomance and the level of excellence achieved in CSR practices at macro and micro levels in project countries through development of country level CSR perfomance indicators and CSR practice monitoring systems and brokering agreement on them, building capacities for such monitoring, as well as developing/testing self-assessment tools for companies and enhancing their capacities to apply perfomance indicators.
Project activities:
The Project activities fall under two components:
• Development of a country level CSR perfomance measurement system, through research and consultations, in order to assess and monitor CSR excellence in project countries. This will include
a) development of country level measurement system and
b) training of country representatives on the practical application of the CSRperfomance measurement methodology.
• Developing and strenghtening capacities of companies to assess their own CSR perfomance by
a) developing of a company level CSR perfomance self-assessment tool;
b) training of trainers on the use of CSR perfomance self-assessment tool and
c) developing a handbook on self-assessment practices.
Funded by the European Union, the Project is led by UNDP Office in Lithuania and is implemented by UNDP Offices in Project countries.

ACCELERATING CSR PRACTICES IN THE NEW EU MEMBER STATES AND CANDIDATE COUNTRIES AS A VEHICLE FOR HARMONIZATION, COMPETITIVENESS AND SOCIAL COHESION IN THE EU
Project description:
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is a concept whereby companies integrate social and environmental concerns in their business operations and in their interactions with stakeholders on a voluntary basis. CSR is an important tool for private sector to actively contribute to the sustainable development, which is a long-term goal of EU. New EU Member States and countries candidates face a challenge to integrate sustainability principles on a country level in order to reach coherence with old EU countries. The Project aims to accelerate the implementation of CSR practices in the new EU Member States and candidate countries: Bulgaria, Croatia, Hungary, Lithuania, Macedonia, Poland, Slovak Republic and Turkey. Spain, UK and Germany will also be involved in the Project by contributing to exchange of experience and good CSR practices.
Objectives:
The main objective of the Project is to accelerate the implementation of CSR practices in new EU region, which is seen as a vehicle for EU harmonization, improving competitiveness and social cohesion. This is expected to be achieved by comprehensively mapping out the CSR activities and actors, identifying capacity gaps and areas where support to both business and the governments is needed, exchange of experience and good practices, awareness raising and supporting national stakeholders.
Project activities:
The Project activities fall under three components:
• Situational analysis of CSR status in each Project country by carrying out baseline surveys, which will result in European synthesis report to be presented in Regional conference for discussions.
• Promotion of multi-stakeholder dialogue to enhance awareness and exchange good practices by a) organizing national and local forums in each of the target countries; Regional conference for all Project countries; b) establishing peer groups to work on National CSR agendas and c) developing a Project website.
• Developing and strengthening capacity of existing and future CSR stakeholders by a) organizing training sessions for peer groups and other active participants in CSR; b) taking peer groups on study trips to the UK, Germany and Spain; c) creating CSR tools database; and d) organizing discussion tables and a study visit in the UK.
Funded by the European Union, the Project is led by UNDP Office in Lithuania and will be implemented by UNDP Offices in Project countries in cooperation with national and regional partners.
